About Us
Established in 1986, Very Special Arts India is a not for profit organization working with the differently abled and economically marginalized children youth in India. Since its inception, VSAI has worked to empower children, youth and women, belonging to these groups, through a combination of social, educational and vocational rehabilitation services.
Our overriding goal is to nurture the inherent abilities and talents of the differently abled population, provide them with a platform to develop a skill, build self-esteem, and facilitate their smooth integration into mainstream society. To that end, we have effectively used dance, drama, music, visual arts and crafts as remedial therapies. We promote vocational training to enable the group to become self-reliant. In recent years, we have successfully offered computer education to help bridge the digital divide.
All that we do is geared towards helping the marginalized (economically, socially, physically or mentally) be productive and contributing citizens of society. We thus encourage all students to actively participate in games including Special Olympics, learn computer skills, and participate in market visits, cultural outings, and other indoor and outdoor activities.
We are proud to note that many of the youth who have been trained at VSAI have gone on to set up successful businesses of their own, some have been gainfully employed at various institutions and others have been retained by VSAI.
All services provided by VSAI are offered free of charge. We therefore depend heavily on individual and group donations. Critical to our work are the volunteers from within India and abroad who generously contribute their time, skills and expertise to help run our programmes. We not only appreciate but also value their support.
